I am an affiliate of Diecast Models Wholesale which sells a wide variety of models at great prices. They also ship worldwide. If you like this model, simply click on the photo and you will be brought to the DMW website.

I have said it before on this blog and on my Facebook page. I like Maisto models.

Sure they are considered just adequate mainstream, but for some unknown reason the models they make appeal to me.

This Mercedes CLK GTR model is a case in point. I have the race car version and its one of my models that I like keeping on the shelf in front of me simply because its so nice to look at.

If you're a fan too and you'd like the model shown here, click on the photo to buy it from Diecast Models Wholesale.

1955 Mercedes Benz 300S by Maisto in 1:18 scale

Maisto tends to get a bad rap among collectors but personally I have a lot of Maistos in my collection and I'm pretty much a happy camper. For what its worth I do have CMCs and Exoto also and they are really on a different level. But my Maistos are happily coexisting with my AUTOarts, Kyoshos, Hot Wheels and others. At the end of the day, collecting is all about what YOU want for yourself and I'm very happy checking them out everyday since a lot of them are in my office ;-)

I understand the criticism leveled against their smaller scales like 1/64s but a lot of their 1:18s are actually decent models.

This Mercedes is no exception. While processing the photos in Lightroom prior to posting here, I found myself marveling at what a nice model it was.

Hopefully you enjoy looking at the model as much as I did.

2001 Mercedes Benz SL CLass by Maisto Premiere in 1:18 scale

I like this particular model of Maisto. Perhaps it helps that it is really a beautiful car but it certainly is a tribute as well to the quality of the casting.

I have also put this up for sale on the Toywizard Facebook page for a measly P4,200 pesos or about 95 US dollars. Maistos of this era are selling for $130 to $150.

Maisto Hummer - A personal favorite

I have a simple rule for choosing diecast toys for myself. If it looks good, I get it. I am not particular about the brand as long as the detail and quality is good. This applies to any scale.

The 1/64 scale Maisto Hummer featured here is one example. For one reason or another, many collectors have shunned the Maisto brand for Tomicas, Matchbox and Hot Wheels. Now while a good number of Maisto's are admittedly lacking in quality, this Hummer shows that one can overlook gems like this if the whole Maisto line is shunned.
