I was rummaging through my cabinet when I saw some Tomicas from 2000 and earlier hidden under some Hot Wheels and MB's.

What struck me was the fact that they are old school vehicles and aside from being hard to find on the diecast market, they are likewise hard to find as real 1:1 vehicles.

There are a lot more of them there but here is the first batch, for your viewing pleasure.

By the way, all these vehicles except the Subaru came from the 30th Anniversary Tomicas Cars and Case set released in 2000.

Lately I am quite surprised at seeing some models in diecast which I had been unaware of. Despite my attempts to read up on cars, both historical and present, once in a while, I am faced with a model I had not heard of before.

The Audi 100 Coupe S shown here, is one of those models. I had never heard of it before until I came across the model which was part of a big model purchase I made recently. In fact there are even quite a few videos in Youtube featuring this model.

The model below is in 1/18 scale.

RECENT ACQUISITIONS: TOMICA LIMITED LEXUS LFA 10th Anniversary

Went to the mall this week to run a few errands. Problem was that my errand involved going into the department on the same floor as the toys.

As expected, I came out of the mall with a significantly lighter wallet, with yet another batch of toys to add to my pile.

There were two significant finds. Here is one of them, the Tomica Limited Lexus LFA 10th Anniversary with 5 different versions of the LFA and an LFA key which hopefully fits some of the newly arrived LFA's at our local Lexus dealership ;-)

Another Unappreciated Maisto

I have always been a fan of Maisto's and the fact that they are undervalued and under appreciated just makes them more attainable to cash strapped collectors like me.

Recently I was able to acquire a big lot of models and there were several Maistos in the lot. Here is one of them, the 1993 McLaren F1 which is a presonal favorite of mine.

I have yet to set up my mini studio so please bear with me. I'll have better photos later on.

While they are in a smaller 1/72 scale, the detail on these models are quite good. They are attractive and are small enough to display on a desk.

I was checking out some of my digital backups when I ran across photos of some toys in my past. I had these toys during a turbulent time in my past and I had no choice but to let them go.

I bought these via a swap with a friend but over a period of 60 days, I lost practically all of them....

My consolation here is it is better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all. At least I was able to have these toys in my possession before letting them go.

So over the next few posts, I will share these blasts from my past.

I haven't met a Tomica I can resist. At least not in the regular lineup.

This is why I avoid places like toystores in the mall because I will be irresistibly drawn to the Tomica display, mumble "just looking around" to the sales person who never believed it from day 1 and pick out at least 2 and sometimes 10 pieces depending on whether I still have enough money left for food.

So I was in the mall the other day and because the girls were in the girls section, me and the boys went to the toys section. Thankfully they only had 3 new ones so I only bought 6. I'm from the "if you need one you gotta have two" school.

So enjoy my new acquisitions.

I have a confession to make. I have been known to be more of a Tomica guy than anything else. But there are a few select members out there who know that I have a weakness for Import Tuners, Playing Mantis stuff and Badd Rides among others.

In fact, I have a secret stash of these which I open up every so often just to admire the models. In the case of these two beauties, I took them out of the blister pack and put them on my work table so I have them sitting here in front of me while I work.

I couldn't resist the temptation to take a photo but you'll have to excuse the quality. I'll take better photos next time. For now, this photo, on top of my Asus 1000HE will have to do.

Like my friend Jovet, I was wondering if this was the real thing, but it WAS an honest to goodness series from the UK and it's really cool.

I want to make it clear, I don't have any of these anymore.

I wish I did, but I sold them a long time ago.

I am posting them here for two reasons:

1. These models look too good to waste.

2. I can get some consolation in the fact that there will be some readers who will be feeling as bad as I am because they don't have it too heh heh.

Seriously, as they say, it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

I'm not sure if I agree 100% about the love thingie but I can say that when it comes to models, it is of some consolation to have been able to own them for a brief time.

This is why I take as many good pictures as possible, of my cars. Seeing them in great detail, even in a photo, is a passable substitute for owning them.

Probably not since these were the first Real Toys to be sold in recent times. I think this was around 2005 or 2006.

Now, one thing that can be said about the Toywizard is that he is an excellent judge of value.

In his eternal wisdom, he allowed all these toys, which were previously in his magical toy chest, to be sold and did not bother to keep one for himself!

Now these Real Toys cannot be seen on the market anymore and upon seeing these photos, the Toywizard says that was a real smart move genius.

Seriously that was an epic smart move. I even recalled telling myself how nice the castings were. These were not cheap spin offs as they were pretty heavy, had good details and had excellent finishes.

So if you see the older casting Real Toys such as this on the market, check them out. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how good they are.

My only consolation is I regained my sanity in time to at least keep these which I still have, which are not for sale.

Maisto - Underappreciated and Undervalued

I've always been a fan of the 1/18 scale Maistos even though they don't get the respect that other manufacturers get.

Well that's good news for me the collector because I can get Maistos for prices way below Autoart and Kyosho prices.

Here is another set of Skyline photos.

Was watching also the Best Motoring Video June 2009 , it was a tuned car battle where a tuned R35 dominated a field with tuned versions of the Ferrari F430, Corvette Z06 and a Lotus Exige. It was awesome.

Since we cant get those thrills here, lets go on and ogle some more items from my current Skyline garage.

Here we have a pair of Nissan Skyline R34 's. One variant is of the wide wheel variety and comes from the 30th Anniversary Super Police Set while the other of the thin wheel or "butones" in the vernacular, is from the 30th Anniversary Cars and Case Set.

This red beauty is from the Nissan Skyline 30th Anniversary Set.

Last for now and most certainly not the least, we have 2 R34's from the regular line.

One is the street version, the #20 and the #44 is the JGTC Version. Both very well executed and very desirable. Pretty rare nowadays too.

So there you have it. It not everything but lets save those for another day.

An undervalued Tomica Limited Celica

I keep passing this model on my way into my home office but I never really stopped to give it a once over again.

I know I've ogled this model in other times but I guess a more hectic work schedule prevents me from opening up the box to appreciate it again.

This is the Tomica Limited Dandy series which is a Tomica Limited in a larger, 1:43 scale.

The model is a Toyota Celica Supra XX 2800 GT. I'm not sure is this is the last model before the Celica and Supra parted ways and became separate models but if not then its probably the second to the last.

The real model is quite collectible now and I saw 2 examples recently which were in need of TLC.

Anyway enjoy this Celica Supra, its one overlooked model in the Tomica Limited Dandy lineup that I am sure will be a sought after model in the near future.

Some old friends revisited

While doing some housekeeping on my PC's I came across some photos of models that I had before. What follows are all in 1:18 scale and are actually eligible to appear in toys I wish I kept.

However if I don't exercise restraint in my choices, most of the toys I have sold will fall under this category. After all my basis is truly " if you like it, buy it".

The Nissan Skyline is fast becoming the rock star of cars. This goes for the real ones as well as the diecast ones. While the real ones don't fly off the parking lots as fast as the diecast ones do on the store shelves, the Skylines for sale in Manila are few and always attract a lot of attention.

This post will be a long series of posts as I am actually a one BIG Skyline fan and there are loads of toys and information about the Skyline all around the Web.

Actually there are three die hard fans in my household, that's me and my two sons. We love our Skylines in Gran Turismo 5 and we would love even more, to have a real life Mines GT-R in our garage.

Alas we only have 1/64 scale Skylines at the moment but at least we have more of them on our toy shelves, than we can ever hope to have in our garage in real life.

The Revell Robotech VF-1D GUARDIAN Defender / MACROSS Series from the 80s

I came upon this kit in one of my favorite small toyshops, a real life toy shop hidden in a remote city with a LOT of old toys....

This kit is from the early 80's and is Made in Japan. Its described as a Macross Tatsunoko Production.

I am very intrigued by this model particularly since I was not from the Macross era. I was more from the Gigantor era heh heh. Right now the model is sealed, probably its original 80s shrinkwrap bit if this is not sold soon, my curiosity will get the best of me and I will really have to take a peek inside the box.

This Revell Robotech VF-1D is posted on Ebay.ph. Someone buy it quick before I open it!

Had to say a bittersweet farewell to these beauties .... These limited edition Filipina Barbies have been in my store in 1997 / 1998 but obligations came up so they went up on the auction block and before I knew what was happening, I sold them all to one very happy collector.

But thats how it goes when one has a hobby such as mine. It thrives on the appearance and value of certain objects and real life dictates that we must give up some for higher objectives and needs.

Anyway I was happy to be able to put them in a good home.

Will try to post more detailed information later.

The Toyota Prius by Tomica

Here are a few examples of the various Toyota Prius models that Tomica has made. If I find others I'll just update this post. If any of you readers have a Tomica Prius diecast you want to share, please email to me toywizard@gmail.com.

Here are two examples of the 1st Generation Prius.

This lavender one comes as part of the regular series and was discontinued a long time ago.

The white one comes from a Toyota 30th Annversary Gift set which features this Prius, a Celica, a Previa and an Echo / Vitz.

A little bit of trivia. TheTomica #86 1st generation Prius was very popular in Puerto Rico during the height of their diecast drag racing craze. They found this model to be pretty heavy and it made for a worthy competitor.

Here we have the second generation. There are two versions here, the Blue one which us the first or special color as denoted by the markings on the box - the extra letters under the name.

And the second one which is the regular color.

A Trio of Taxis

Found a couple of these toys in several rummage sales before and was intrigued by them because I didn't remember riding them in HK probably because none of these left their service areas.

Two of the, the Toyota Crown Comfort Taxi in two different colors which indicate the area they are serving. One serves Lantau and the other services the New Territories. These particular models are made by Carven.

The other one, the KIA Doraemon Taxi is , I think, strictly promotional but I could be wrong.

All of these models are about the equivalent of 1:38 scale so they are fairly well detailed and make for nice displays or conversation pieces in a den or office.

My son was lucky enough to find a few more of these which he acquired and hopes to sell on his selling debut on Ebay.ph

Some Wooden Toys From Our Local Craftsmen

One of the main talents we have in the Philippines are those of our craftsmen and artists.

Below is a showcase of this talent - handmade, hand carved and hand painted wooden display models. The detail on these models is amazing particularly when you see that they are made entirely of wood except for the canvas on the Land Rover.

Size of these models is the equivalent of 1:18.

These models are sold to collectors worldwide with prices ranging from $300 to $500 depending on the model.

Two Random Toys On My Desktop

Here's a random pair I found on my desk. The red one is a Nissan 240 SX by JADA in approximately 1/64 scale.

This other one is a Ford Focus by CARARAMA in 1/72 scale.

Both of these toys currently reside on my workstation.

The Honda Civic Type R by Tomica

Here's the HONDA CIVIC TYPE R by Tomica aka Takara Tomy. As you can see this is one very hot looking model. Before this came out, I was realistically pining over 3 cars - Subaru Forrester STi, Subaru Impreza Sti and the Honda Accord 3.5 V6. Now my list includes 4 cars - this Type R.

I was surprised to see this model come out on the regular line particularly since the wheels were the non-standard button type or "butones" as we call it here in the Philippines.

The new Type R, the REAL ONE was tested by the Best Motoring crew a while ago and the lap times on the Type R were faster than those on an NSX!

Well done Tomica aka Takara / Tomy and a DOUBLE WELL DONE Honda !

Toys I wish I kept - Set 1

The hardest thing for any toy collector to do is to part with his / her toys. But sometimes for one reason or another it must be done and when it is, for some toys its heart wrenching, much like breaking up with a girlfriend.

So even if it pains me, here is a shrine to those heartbreaker toys and this will be a continuing thing on this blog.

Okay - first up is this 1:18 scale 1963 Ford Thunderbird by Anson. This was a beautiful model that was so attractive and was set up in a special place in my office for all of 6 months.

As shown in the photo the model has a lot of features like opening doors, hood and trunk. The color was gorgeous and the photos just dont do it justice.

An uncle of mine had a T-bird before and I remember seeing it in our house a long long time ago when it was not a classic yet heh heh.

Might as well enjoy the pain of the loss and post my other heartbreak toy - here is a 1:18 scale Lamborghini Miura.

Sorry I don't remember the manufacturer anymore, its either Maisto or Bburago.
The Miura is a special car to me because it was one of my first cars..... ok ok Matchbox cars.

I desperately wanted to keep this one but fate is cruel and I had to part with this one as well.

The photo above serves to remind me why I loved this model so much ... so this car deserves it place in the Toywizards list of "toys I will buy back some day".

2001 Land Rover Coca Cola by Welly

Here's a gem found by my son in a rummage sale.

Its a 2001 LAND ROVER with Coca Cola tampos on the side.

Its a 1:43 scale model by Welly and it just has a few scratches and was missing the spare wheel.

A look at the Coca Cola Antique Collection by Tomica

After a long hiatus, I would like to feature one of the models in the Tomica Coca Cola Antique Collection. This collection came out sometime in 2002 and was available for only a brief time in the Philippines.
The model featured here is based on the Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and is unfortunately missing a door but better photos will be posted in due time as soon as the Toywizard finds the backup disk containing his toy photos.
Due to the short run and the collectible nature of Coca Cola items and Tomica, these models are quite hard to find and command a good price on Ebay and other markets.

A pair of Mercedes Benz A-class by Tomica

The very first toys on this blog are a pair of Mercedes Benz A-Class in 1/64 scale by Tomica.

Both of these are special models, the green one comes from the Tomica 30th Anniversary 24 model Cars and Case Set while the blue one is from a special 2 car Tomica Fan Club Set also released during the 30th Anniversary of Tomica and during the 5th Year of the Tomica Fan Club.

Today, both these models are available only through specialized toy stores and sometimes through Ebay.

Welcome to the blog of the Toywizard !

This is my very first post on this blog and this will be short for now.

Who am I?
The Toywizard is a toy collector / toy seller who specializes in diecast toys with a special emphasis on 1/64 Tomica / Tomy toys.

Why will I be blogging ?

The most common question I am asked is what toys I have. The answer is of course a long one and knowing the nature of toy lovers, the next best thing to owning a toy is holding it, and the next best thing to holding it is seeing it ... and so on and so forth.

SO here is where I post my toys as I encounter them. New stuff, long lost stuff. sold stuff, newly bought stuff ..
